During my time as an IMPACT Intern at the 1917 Clinic I have not only enhanced the knowledge gained though classroom learning but have also gained professional experience and practical skills in public health. This experience has allowed me to further explore and become more committed to my interests in sexual health promotion and HIV awareness.Overall, I found that my IMPACT Internship was a very positive and rewarding experience. At the 1917 Clinic, I served as the lead Oraquick HIV Testing and Counseling Intern. In this position, I was responsible for conducting hiv testing and counseling at the clinic and other community events. I was also in charge of inputing personal information into the basic hiv testing database and the HADIS state health department database. I was also given the opportunity to update and maintain the clinic's gynecological patient database. Every month, I attended various seminars, meetings, forums, and workshops that were put together by the clinic, the Patient Advisory Board, and other organizations within the HIV Prevention Network in Alabama. This experience really enriched my professional growth and allowed me to interact with individuals that share my same interests and develop connections that could be helpful to me now and in the future. As an IMPACT Intern, I was given the opportunity to receive real life work experience in a field that I see as my life's work. I was able to witness leadership from my supervisor and from the other members of the HIV Prevention and Education Team. These individuals taught me that becoming educated and competent is key cornerstone to being a great leader. They also taught me that a group is only as good as its weakest member, so it was great to see how they were always willing to help us, educate us, and groom us to be the best future public health professionals we can be. Lastly, this internship taught me that having passion and drive for what I want to do is really the difference between having a job or having a professional career. I really enjoyed my internship. The connections I was able to make were great. I also developed a better understanding of what life with HIV in Alabama is like. Many people shared their stories and it was wonderful. Probably one of the hardest and most valuable experiences I had was being able to tell someone that they are HIV positive. IMPACT Internship Program

The Impact Internship Program is sponsored by the Alabama Public Health Training Center and the South Central Public Health Training Center, both part of the South Central Public Health Partnership. The program provides graduate students with the opportunity to develop public health skills while assisting agencies in our partner states—Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi—in their efforts to assure a fully prepared public health workforce for the future. To be chosen as an intern, students must be enrolled in a university located in one of the partner states and pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree in Public Health. Students will receive stipend payment provided by Training Center funding.

The cover letter should detail your interest in the project, your availability (including hours required to fulfill internship requirement), and include the Job ID and the project title.
The cover letter and resume/cv should be combined into one pdf document with the cover letter at the top.
